Why do the letters look light — is that paint or foil?
Neither. The cover is stained black, and the design is laser-engraved through the finish — the light tone you see is the natural wood itself, revealed by the engraving. There's nothing applied on top, so there's nothing to chip, peel, or fade: the contrast is built into the wood.
Can we use more than two initials — or full names instead?
Yes. The monogram is redrawn for your exact letters, and the composition can carry full names, three initials, or a single letter — tell us what you'd like in the ENGRAVING field, and the free layout we send for approval will show your version precisely. A completely different arrangement is also possible at no extra charge.
Do black pages work with this cover?
Beautifully — an all-black book with light engraved lettering is one of the most striking combinations we make. Two things to know:
- Black pages come as blank sheets — printed layouts are available on white and ivory paper.
- Give guests a metallic or white-ink pen — signatures glow against the dark paper.
Will fingerprints show on the black cover?
The cover is sealed with a protective, non-toxic finish, so it wipes clean with a soft dry cloth. It's engraved wood, not gloss lacquer — the surface doesn't collect fingerprints the way a piano-black phone case does, even after a full evening of guests handling it.
How many sheets should we order?
Guests write on both sides of every sheet, and capacity depends on the page style: photo layouts hold 1-2 entries per side, lined or blank pages take 2-3. In practice, 30 sheets fit an intimate evening reception, 45 a mid-size celebration, and 60 leave spare pages that many couples fill with notes on anniversaries.
When will I see the design before it's engraved?
Within 12–24 hours of ordering you'll receive a digital preview showing your initials, names, and date on the black cover exactly as they'll be engraved. We start production only after you approve it, and adjustments at the preview stage are free.
